My fiance isn't a poet, mind you. But this is one that he composed years back. It's beautiful and heroic that it always stuck in my mind in all these years from the time I first read it. I thought I'd share it with you guys~
To A Dying Hero

Your untimely death is something very sad
For there is no one left to protect us from the bad.
You were good, strong, wise and brave,
Your death draws your admirers to your grave.
Oh, how we miss the days when you helped us well
From the dark minions that emerged from where they dwell,
From the evil spirits that attacked our beautiful land
And tried to turn everything into sand.
Before your death, we all believed in you and your skill
That you had the power to drive away evil monsters at your will.
And your great victory over that stunning beast with a horn
Had kept us away from the feelings of being forlorn.
We had regarded you as a wonderous boy,
For you had filled out hearts with hope and joy.
Now that your light is slowly fading away,
We hope someone like yourself would reappear one day.
Our elders could forsee the coming of evil's bane
So we shall ensure that your sacrifice was not in vain,
For we had been inspired to defend ourselves by your brave acts,
And your deeds shall be recorded in the Imperial Scroll of Facts.
The day will come when we all shall overcome the threat
And that, the dark forces will face a severe defeat;
No matter how strong the tides of darkness are in our history,
We will defeat them and claim victory.
Rest in peace, brave hero, for your days are over.
Even after death, you shall above our heads hover.
And when the dust clears and peace returns to the kingdom,
We shall thank those who valiantly gave their lives for our land's freedom.
